‘Birdman’ director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s film debut ‘Amores Perros&#

While everyone and myself included can’t wait to see Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s film Birdman. I just wanted to share one of the best films that I’ve ever seen in my life that actually marked Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s film debut as a director in 2000. This film is called Amores Perros (Love is a Bitch). A tragic car accident weaves three stories together, each involving characters dealing with loss, regret, and life’s harsh reality- all in the name of love. This film is in Spanish but I don’t want that to take anything away from the cinematic art that is being provided by Inarritu and his team. Visually, thematically, technically, this film soars so high on every level. It was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2001 Academy Awards. Amores Perros hits pretty melodramatic moments but is grounded so expertly by actors Emilio Echevarria, Goya Toledo, Adriana Barraza, and in his feature film debut, Gael Garcia Bernal (who’s staring in Jon Stewart’s Rosewater). This movie is one of the best films of the last decade and still remains one of the best of all time. It has a wrenching impact but its moral core is what makes this movie so stunning. Amores Perros uses canine savagery as an “entre” to human brutality. Go see it and you’ll know what I mean.
