Yes, I think it’s safe to say that I think David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows is a brilliant coming-of-age horror/art film. I’ve talked about the film enough but only mentioned briefly about the sensational score from Disasterpeace (Rich Vreeland). The soundtrack doesn’t overwhelm It Follows, instead it becomes apart of the world making every scene embody this sense of nameless dread.

“I tried to complement the understated tone of the film by creating a really bombastic score and playing up the director’s emotional intent” (Disasterpeace).

The music is telling a story and throughout the film it reveals its layers as does the film as a whole. It creates this atmosphere that is at one moment dream-like and the next nightmarish. But what really stood out was how Rich Vreeland uses natural sounds, like a car engine, and seamlessly blurs his score with those sounds making these everyday noises unsettling and real.

Check it out.
